We are pleased to announce the promotion of Robert “Bob” Szeli to Deputy Chief and Assistant Director of Quality Assurance.

Szeli began his EMS career in 2008 as an EMT, later EMT-I, and then paramedic and has developed deep expertise across clinical operations and quality systems. He holds a master of business administration and a master of science in data analytics, credentials that directly inform his evidence-based approach to QA/QI program development and performance measurement.
Prior to the Empress acquisition, Szeli led the Quality Assurance program at Mobile Life Support Services — a role that transitioned well into his position heading the North Quality Assurance Department, reflecting both organizational continuity and his established mastery of the function. His QA work spans case review, protocol compliance, clinical outcome tracking, and provider feedback.
Beyond his organizational role, Szeli is an active contributor to the Hudson Valley EMS community, serving as chair of the Protocol and Policy Committee — a position that keeps him at the forefront of regional clinical standards and inter-agency collaboration. He also brings experience in Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS), adding operational depth to his clinical and administrative profile.
In his new position, he will oversee Quality Assurance across all divisions.
“We look forward to Robert utilizing his expertise and knowledge to benefit the department,” said Scott Holland, Senior Director of Operations.
