Paramedic Toni Lemke, EMT/paramedic student Daniel Breitman, EMT Andrew Martin, and EMT Quamel Muhammad are being honored with Meritorious Awards by Westchester REMSCO (Regional Emergency Medical Services Council) for their courageous and professional response during a critical medical emergency on Dec. 8, 2024.

Through their quick action, teamwork, and dedication to patient care, the crew successfully resuscitated a patient in the field.

Though the patient was later diagnosed as brain dead three days later, the crew’s efforts ensured that the patient’s wish to donate his organs could be honored.

As a result, five other lives were saved — allowing the patient’s legacy to live on through the gift of life he gave others.

“This commendation stands as a testament to the bravery, compassion, and professionalism of this crew,” said Deputy Chief Sean O’Brien. “Their actions embody the highest standards of EMS service.”

Their awards were presented at a ceremony held at Westchester Community College on May 20.
