SSC/EMT Tiffany Nunez is being honored by the Westchester REMSCO (Regional Emergency Services Council) as Communications Specialist of the Year. She received the award at a ceremony on May 20 at Westchester Community College in Valhalla.

A key part of the Empress EMS communications team, Nunez was chosen because of her dedication, professionalism, and composure in one of the most critical roles within EMS.
“Her ability to coordinate emergency responses, support field crews, and ensure seamless communication makes her an invaluable asset to our organization,” said Deputy Chief Sean O’Brien.
As a communications specialist, Nunez is a critical lifeline between those in need and the emergency responders who serve them. Her quick thinking, attention to detail, and ability to manage high-pressure situations ensure that all calls are handled with the utmost care and efficiency.
A mentor and role model for her colleagues, Nunez guides and supports new communications specialists, sharing her expertise and best practices. Her leadership has contributed to improved response times, enhanced operational efficiency, and a more cohesive work environment.
Because Nunez is also an EMT, she has a unique perspective on the challenges faced by field crews that helps her ensure that her dispatching decisions are made with the best interests of both responders and patients in mind.
“Her calm demeanor, even in the most high-stakes situations, fosters confidence among her colleagues and ensures that every call is handled with professionalism and care. Her dedication to service, ability to multitask under pressure, and compassion for those in crisis truly set her apart,” O’Brien said.
